Dear friend

Take action to free Kyaw Hla Aung! No Political Prisoners must be left
behind in Burma?s jails!

When Thein Sein visited the UK in July last year, he promised David Cameron
that he would release all political prisoners by the end of 2013. President
Thein Sein broke his promise - hundreds of political prisoners could still
be in jail in Burma, and more than a hundred are still on trial for their
peaceful political activities.

Kyaw Hla Aung is a human rights defender and a Rohingya community leader
from Rakhine State who promotes minority rights in the country. He was
arrested in July 2012 as part of a Burmese government plan to arrest and
detain Muslim community leaders to stop them from talking to international
observers and journalists.

On 15th July, he was taken from his home in Sittwe without any charges and
was detained in Sittwe police station. After his arrest, he was charged with
three different counts, and transferred to Sittwe Prison. When his trial
began on 14 August 2013, four more counts were added to his case.

He has now been charged with 7 counts including under Section 150 of Hiring
or Conniving at Hiring of Persons to Join an Unlawful Assembly, and 505(b)
of Statements Conducting to Public Mischief. His trial continues at Sittwe
Court but no verdict has been reached. He is suffering from high blood
pressure and arthritis.

Take action here - ple
> ase write a letter to
Prime Minister David Cameron
> , urging the UK
government to take action for the release of Kyaw Hla Aung and all remaining
political prisoners in Burma.

Thank you.

Wai Hnin
