Dear friend

We need your help. Perhaps it has happened to you. The subject of Burma comes up, and someone says, I thought everything was ok there now? Lots of people have been telling us they have heard this. We have heard it ourselves.

With the release of Aung San Suu Kyi, and the British government planning to give Burma?s President Thein Sein red-carpet treatment when he visits the UK this weekend (at a cost of more ?30,000 to British taxpayers), there is a danger of a growing perception that everything is ok in Burma now.

But it isn?t. Hundreds of political prisoners remain in jail, attacks against ethnic minorities continue, reports of rape by Burmese Army soldiers have increased, and almost all repressive laws remain in place. We have produced a detailed briefing of the many horrific human rights abuses still going on in Burma. You can read it here:

http://www.burmacampaign.org.uk/index.php/news-and-reports/burma-briefing/title/human-rights-abuses-since-thein-sein-became-president

The people of Burma still need our support, and so we need your help to spread the word that everything isn?t ok in Burma. We are a small campaign group. We have produced the first in a series of campaign posters drawing attention to problems that remain in Burma. However, we can?t afford expensive advertising campaigns.

But there are thousands of people on this email list. If everyone on this list were to put these posters on Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks, and to forward these posters by email to their friends, or perhaps even print them and put them up at work or at home, we could reach millions of people.

Please help us spread the word. The people of Burma still need our help.

Thank you

Anna
