[NY Burma Roundtable] UN DEMONSTRATION AND CANDLELIGHT VIGIL - Tomorrow, Friday, May 9!

"Dear all,

Please see below regarding a protest and candlelight vigil tomorrow.

For the protest at the UN, which begins at 3 pm (Columbia folks, meet
at the gates at 2:15), we're looking to drive home the points the US
Campaign for Burma will be making at their press conference inside the
UN - namely: BURMA MUST LET AID REACH THE CYCLONE VICTIMS NOW. As you
probably know, the junta has been preventing aid agencies from
entering the country, and preventing them from working freely within
the country.

This must stop. There will be media. We need numbers. Please come.

1) Protest: 3 pm at the United Nations, Ralph Bunche Park at 43rd and 1st Ave.

2) Vigil: Union Square South at 14th St and Bway. Spread the word
about relief funding.

Last, many people are trying to figure out where they can donate
money. Right now we're pushing for a group called Thirst-Aid
(www.thirst-aid.org), which is inside Burma NOW working to provide
water and shelter, the most pressing concerns right now. Avaaz is also
doing a great campaign to raise money:

Otherwise, major INGO's are finally beginning to get access, like
World Vision, Oxfam, etc. Check them out for donation possibilities,
too. See below for a good list.

Let's be heard tomorrow!"
