Local Burmese junta authorities had forced people to tick in support of the draft constitution at night on the eve of the referendum and told them not to leak the news, resulting in 90 per cent support in the Kunhing Township, 141 miles west of Kengtung, capital of eastern Shan State.

Arakanese Township to raise 30 million Kyat for Nargis victims

Maungdaw: The Burmese military junta authorities have ordered the township authorities of Maungdaw, a western border town of Arakan, to collect more than 30 million kyat from the township to contribute to a government fund for people affected by Cyclone Nargis in Irrawaddy, said an official in Maungdaw.
