Despite somewhat undue concern shown by local military authorities in winning  votes from the people in each of their constituencies, the ruling generals have already given themselves as much leeway as possible to come out on top again in tomorrow's constitutional referendum, according to an informed source returning from Shan State South.

New Delhi :  Relief material has been pouring into Burma from several countries in the aftermath of the killer cyclone Nargis which claimed thousands of lives and left over a million homeless. Singapore, Italy, Japan and Taiwan today airlifted relief material including medicines, food and tents for cyclone victims in Burma.

Desperate to see that the approval for the draft constitution comes through at the referendum, the Burmese military junta in Muse Township in Shan State has ordered the quarter administration and polling booth commission to initiate action against those who disturb the process and are working against it, a source said.

Maungdaw:  Readymade "Yes" stamped ballots have been distributed to poor families by authorities in Maungdaw Township in Arakan State in advance for them to cast in the referendum to be held on May 10, said a villager.
